Showtime!

Since I want students to choose what movie to see I want to make sure I have the movie I have listed. I currently own the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, but still need to find whether I'm going to have to buy the film Remember the Titans or borrow it. Either way those are the two options, which both talk about leadership, courage and camaraderie. I also decided to choose to show these movies on May 18th, the week before graduation weeks and show my review panel how students responded to the movies on May23rd. I hope all goes well, but so far I'm only working on the questions I'm going to ask to the students who participate in my project.

  1. These two are good films. But there has to be another aspect to them than just leaderships because there are a lot of good movies out there that portray this.

To figure out the questions that you will be asking student's you might want to sit down and think about how these movies made you feel when you watched them. You could ask them for the scene that affected them the most and so on.

With great movies it isn't just about the message, the soundtrack, and images have to come together to achieve the desired effect. You have to really dissect how these films were shot and what makes them great because there are a lot of good movies out there that are just that, good.

  2. Yes I agree with Elber. I think that maybe you should go to a couple of kids and ask them to define what leadership really is. I think you will be surprised to hear what they say. I honestly think that Band of Brothers is a great movie, and Saving Private Ryan also comes along those lines of brotherhood and the, "Leave no man behind" motto which is a strong example of leadership. I strongly encourage that you use a quick and easy online survey after the movies or a small sample of personal responses to best gather the results.

  3. A couple of things -- have you cleared this date? Work through Dave or Carl if you want this to be a Men's Group or Young Men's Group event.

Another thing to be aware of -- and hinted at here by MarctheDreamer and Elber -- you have to prep your audience for this viewing. Otherwise, they will just think it is for entertainment.
